Tried the old McCormick binder out at the weekend, and it Did work!..........but the chain on the bullwheel wanted to ride up on the sprockets. Tried tightening up the idler a bit (it has spring tension) and it was OK for a while, then in a thick green patch, the chain let go. I am looking to replace the drive chain, but the book says it takes; "...58 links of # 72 1/2 steel chain" I called the local old farm supply place, and he has never heard of number 72 1/2 chain. Anyone have sources for the sprockets for steel detachable chain? I got a wire winder that wore out the sprockets. It has been taken over by NAPA, but the old boy still has piles of his own stuff in the back room. He's normally pretty good at finding old stuff, but I think his eyes are not so good these days, as he had me measure the links, then phoned his supplier, who told him that this size was in his book, and sure enough it was!........so, I ordered a roll and it should be in tommorow. Thanks for the input to everyone. I'll see how the chain fits on the original sprockets, as it isn't so easy pulling the sprockets off to get new ones. R.   [Reply]  [No Email]
