Went to the Iowa State Fair the other day and I always check out the 4H and FFA projects. Looked through a binder for a hayrack that was built HEAVY. The running gear was from a forage box with tandem rear axles, and they used 6) 20 foot 6x6 for the runners with 2x boards for the platform. They mentioned it can hold 180 square bales and also pulls double duty in the spring with a 1,000 gallon nitrogen tank. I have never seen a hayrack built that heavy. |

| I know they build racks a bit different down there, but thats a lot of wood to hold 180 bales. We only have a couple of 4x8" main beams and 2x6 deck for the same thing. |

| Most racks I've seen around here use six 2x8s, three on each side fastened together to make one beam. I would say that more than 90% of those are just 16 foot in length. |

| | I've never understood the desire to use 2 ton of wood that will rot in 10 years vs 1/2 ton of steel that will last a lifetime... Rod |

| That will hold it, but the wagon will be heaver than the load. We have some wagons made from old truck frames, 20 & 24 feet long, 200+ bales or 1500 gal tank they are heavy. |
