Gentlemen, I have my old McCormick-Deering type D binder about ready to go, but have another question; Is the rear curtain important? I didn't find any remains of this when I dug it out of the bush.Thank you in advance! (Got all the woodwork made, and everything Apparently working right....New canvases from Norm, (Thanks!)) |

Thank you for all ther replies, and I note you are all of one mind, that it would only matter if the wind was bad! I don't plan on cutting All the crop with it, so can probably choose the days to some degree. Thanks so much for the answers. Great site this!...always some folks who know about this old machinery. All the best, Richard.

It is to prevent the wind from blowing the cut grain back to the sickle. Won't make any difference if there is no wind from the back.

I think that was there to protect the wind from blowing the grain around on the canvas. Plus it was a good place for advertising their name.

If you're talking about a rear "wall" behind the table, we've been using a Deere without one for years. In fact, I don't remember there are any brackets or mountings. Think there was one on the old one my uncle had 60 years ago. Don't think you're going to miss having one...
