I am trying to retime my 14T. If I understand the book and have done what it says, the needles come to full up position BEHIND the plungerhead!!?? In other words the plungerhead is in full press against the forming bale when the needles come up behind it and place the twine, then withdraw before the plunger withdraws. I have not yet put the pto in gear to see what happens, but have observed all this by hand-turning the big flywheel on the baler. Is this the correct sequence for plunger/needles? Where should the plunger be in relation to the full up needle position?. |

Needles shouldn't be above the bale case channel edges before being even with the points on the face of the PH. I think the measurement in OM is needles to be 1-1/2"s from ""PH face"" but I never use a tape measure when timing a JD sq baler.

Yes, it is 1-3/4 on my MF. What I meant is that they start moving up just ahead of the PH |

| I would not say BEHIND the plunger head but they should start up just ahead of it, then as Tx Jim says they will be in the slots in the head, so that the plunger head is clearing the way for the needles and twine. |

| Needles cone up through slots in the face of the plunger, as the plunger pushes the hay back. This protects the needles when in the up position. Your manual will tell you the exact time needles should enter the chamber. |

| Full PH stroke with needles fully up in knotter sounds correct. Be sure your PH STOP is operating correctly(not froze & with operating spring in place) then turn bale measuring wheel to activate knotter cycle and turn flywheel to bring PH on compression stroke, when points of PH get even with needles when needles are even with the channels that point UP in the bottom of bale case then your baler is in time. |
