i spent the day helping a neighbor making silage out of his soybeans. The beans were windrowed and he was using a pickup head on his new holland cutter. We were plugged most of the time. Always in the tube above the fan. He said it never has had much blow to it since he's owned it. It just can't seem to blow the material, even to the back end of the wagon. The belts are all good, he's running it up to speed. Anybody have any ideas? are there different pulleys one could use to speed up the fan? It's a 1000 RPM machine. Thanks jh |

| | Probably a worn out blower. Check the clearance on the blower paddles between BOTH the lower band and the rimsheet on the intake side. It should be tight enough to take a nickle but leave a dime. Also check the wear liners in the spout to make sure they're not worn through. Beyond that... could be the material gumming. Either too wet or too dry is hard to blow. Sometimes a shorter chop will help too... Rod |

| Ditto on what Rod says about the coin clearance- been 11 years since I chopped haylage, but that clearance is way more critical than on corn silage. You"re dealing with a less dense material. It takes time to adjust the paddles after the band is tight, but any drag just slows down the throw. I had a Gehl CB600 from 1977-2001. (still have it, even tho the 70 cows are gone). JD 4020,4240,4430,Case 2470 on that machine, but the basics don"t change- you can"t make up blower drag with more HP. Clearance needs to be minimal. Just like setting the knives til they click....then back off a "smoosh"- technical term from the op manual! |

| How wet is the material? Fresh cut is tough to blow....is the spout gumming up? |
