Seen this pic at an auction site, said it is a New Idea PT pto driven 6ft sickle mower... looks too green, kinda deerish to me.....?!?!?! What model might it be? I do see it having a wooden pitman arm, no belt. How much can one use it going past 90 degree in slightly sloped areas such as shallow ditches, etc... I was told that belt driven mowers are better for "uneven" grounds.
Thanks in advance, Ralph.
PS: Yes, the far tire is coming off the rim...lol!

Looks like a 30A, we had two when I was a kid. First one gave us hell for about a year until we got it in shape and I learned how to use a sickle mower then it was okay. Did have one annoying habit- tug the lift rope, sometimes it would lift, sometimes it would lift and drop, by then you're over ground that you don't want to mow and probably have clogged up part of the bar which means lifting the mower, turning off the PTO, setting the brake (if I had a tractor the brakes worked on) crawling down and cleaning the blade.

Ive got one, for sale. It looked like yours when I bought it. When I went to get it, somebody had stole that top cast round pan and whatever else around it.

Gearbox reminds me of the NI Dad bought in the mid 50s. Driveline was a PITA. PTO yoke was held on with a separate pin. Used it on ditchbanks, but limited up/down travel. Certainly nothing like belt drives take.

Those were good mowers in their day. I used one a lot in the 60's on soil bank ground. Seems like there was a variation of one on every farm back then.

It's a field mower and will reward you with a busted pitman if you plan to use it on slopes.

could be a 30A

It will not drop down along a ditch line unless you break something.

It will raise up about a foot from the regular cutting level when you pull the lift rope while it is running.

I suppose you could adjust it to run a foot below horizontal and it would run flat in the "up" position.

I just trim my ditches so they are level with the road with mine.

Very hard to tell with all the trasc it is setting in but looks like one of the 30 series, Haven't figured out the differences in the 30 series tho. Would be a clutch lift only mower that has to have the pto and the knife running while lifting. Have no idea on degrees but would work to about a foot at outer end below inner end depending on how it is adjusted. Would be of the first series New Idea made. Later ones look entirely different but still used the same clutch with same parts.

It doesn't look anything like the NI mower that we had, but it may be a completely different model.
