I have a NH 271 that I have had for 4 years, baled okay until this weekend. Used it last weekend worked okay. It will bale 4-5 bales and then won"t tie the right string. I have adjusted twine tension and bale tension, still won"t tie the right string. Appears that the twine in under the bill hook. Any thoughts? Thanks |

Gentlemen-thanks for all the suggestions/recomendations. I have always used the same twine in this baler, bought from the same farm store, local feed store. Talked to the manager there yesterday, said switch balls and see if that fixes the issue. Sure enough, darn thing ties anything it"s fed into the baler. It"s the simple things that make you go crazy! Have a great one eveyone and stay cool!

| | Cyclone71 it sounds like the twine finger or tucker finger on the right side is missing the twine. Trip the knotter and roll the needle up BY HAND. When the needle tip is right at the twine disk stop. Then look down at the top of the bale chamber. The tucker finger lays flat on the top of the chamber. The tip should just miss the needle as the finger rotates. The tucker finger holds the twine back so twine wraps the billhook. If it misses the twine then the bill hook will only have one side in the bill and many times will just drop it. To make OLD happy!!! LOL Look at the knots that are tied on the good bales. Are the tails clean cut or are they frayed??? If they are clean cut then the knife is fine AND NOT causing your problem!!! If they are frayed then rotate the knotter frame up. Sharpen them with a good small file or emery cloth over a small flat piece of metal. Still We really need to see the twine that is on the bales that are not tied. If it is tyeing and skipping then there is a twine on the bale that is not tied. By looking at the ends on the missed bale, that should have a knot on them, we can tell what is not happening most of the time. Just telling us that the twine is under the bill hook is not really that helpful. Remember you are asking US to help YOU to fix YOUR knotter. So arguing with us that we don't need to see the missed twine it not real cool. |

Shot us a picture of what the "bad" knot or string looks like. You did not say if the knot was tied and hanging on the bill hook or if it was not tied at all. We need more information to help much. ALSO DON"T just tighten the darn bill hook tension!!!! That is rarely the problem. It just is easy to do so guys crank them down. That can cause real problems with the knotter.

The knotter doesn"t tie the right string, it"s cut just not tied. Also when it doesn"t tie seem the twine in under the bill hook not on top of the hook.

Ya adjustments do not just change but things like the twine knife getting dull does in fact happen and is a very common problem at least on my 271

Do you have a manual? The manual has atrouble shooting section that details the 5-6 different failure modes of the knotters. Are you finding bales strings hanging on the billhooks?

yes, I have a manual. Bill hook maybe the issue, too loose? But why does it bale 4-5 okay and then won't tie the right side?

Check to see if the fingers that draw the twine into the knotter is working, sometimes the spring that holds tension on them breaks.

It does 4 or 5 bales correctly and then will not tie the right string on the next 3.
