Went to start baling hay this morning and after lubing and oil chains, I heard a poping noise at the top of the baler. Found the upper drive roller on the drive end with ball bearings coming from the bearing flange. after driving 2 hours to get a new one, the dealer told me that I need to replace the whole upper drive roller with 1 1/2 bearings and a 4 hole bearing flange. He said later models went to a 1 1/2 instead of the 1 1/4. Anyone aware of this ? |

| Yes the Super I balers did go to the 1 1/2" upper drive rollers but realize your 504I is around 20 years old or older. The 1.25" system has lasted this long so unless you are custom baling I'd go back with the 1.25". Has the shaft been damaged? If not go back with the a wide inner-race 1.25" bearing. If the shaft has been damaged is the shaft welded in the roller or is the shaft secured with SDS hubs? |

| | Terry. The plain I Is not as heavy in the shaft and bearing area. The Super I has a piece of steel plate over the side frame where the drive roller goes through at the bottom. They must have some heavier shafts too. The plain I does not have this. There are probably some more reinforcements I'm not familiar with.
Some Super I's have a hydraulic cylinder to add bale tension on the side in place of one of the springs. I'm told it makes much tighter bales. KEH |

| The upper drive roller is the weak point on those balers. I have a 505I, not SuperI, and I had to replace the upper roller. I would get the bigger roller if possible.I'm sure you are aware that there are 2 SuperIs', one with an extra spring at the bottom and the later one with hydraulic tensioner. Don't know when the bigger upper roller came in. KEH |
