Hey Bandit,I have been waiting and watching for this post and I am SOOOOO glad the head and the narrow row corn worked out for you!Did the Doc clear you to run the combine or was it one of those "Im gonna do it no matter what" kind of moment? How did the narrow compare yield wise to your wide rows from years past? You mentioned spacing yours out next year and thought i would pass on some info i learned this year.We have planted 24" corn since 2005 and this year i done three population test plots. One was on 8.5,one was on 12,and one was on 16".My thinking was that the spaced out corn would make a bigger ear or possibly two or more ears but that wasnt the case. The 12 and 16" both started forming the 2nd ear but never really made a good ear with the limited water supply i had for irrigation.Next year i am giong to plant on 6.5" with the hopes of making one good ear per stalk and if a 2nd ear forms it will be icing on the cake.Glad to hear things turned out good for you and I know that riding the combine with the head that you worked so hard on and combining good corn is better feel good medicine than any doctor could ever give you. |

| Haley the doc cleared me but told me to take it easy, ha-ha right. I guess truth be know most guys adverage 150 to 180bu an acre on a good year so a 132bu an acre aint to bad for this year. The only thing I can say about this year is my corn did alittle better than alot of guys around me. I am not complaing about my yields at all in fact I am happy with them, Trying something new like this with all the record heat and little rain and doing as good as it did I cant complain. Next year I guess I will try it agin on some diffrent ground at the same population and see what happens. Thats the great thing about farming, There is allways next year. Bandit |
