It said each new model had 25% more capacity than the one it replaced. I've had a 40,55,4400,and a 6600. If I had a couple of hundred acres to cut or less I would take a 5 series. If I had to cut 500 or more acres I would take a 00 series. Like others said, the 5 series are easier to work on and maintain but 00 series are more convenient to run IMO. Unless you have a 5 series from the last 2 years of production, they will have the chain drive cylinder and them stupid shims on the fan pulley. How many of the SB 5 series were diesel percentage wise compared to the 00 series. Same thing with hydros? Its a lot easier to find a 6600 or 770 hydro then a 105 or 95. [Reply]  [No Email]

When JD came out with the xx00 series, they virtually took over the whole market here, and haven't looked back. I don't understand. The cab beside engine thing never appealed to me. So I don't think the engine next to the cab was a big deal at that time. 20 years later different story. Plus the 00 series was the first really new combine seperator design since 1949. As good as the 5 series were, they were an old design that dated all the way back to the early 40s. JD did great work to stretch that design. [Reply]  [No Email]

Skyhighballoon(MO) 10-08-2012 13:26:21 135.245.10.3 Report to Moderator	Re: what models replaced the following combines... in reply to greenize, 10-08-2012 12:35:13   I'm no JD person when it comes to combines...I'm a Gleaner guy... but for a fast answer the 45/55/95/105 (adding to your list) were replaced by the 3300/4400/6600/7700 and that series was later updated to the 4420/6620/7720 (I think the 3300 was dropped somewhere along they way, not sure what year so no 3320). I have read where JD felt that the 3300 was a replacement for the 55, the 4400 for the 95, the 6600 for the 105 and the 7700 was just a larger capacity machine that was a new size altogether. As to using one, a 4400 is over 30 years old, and the 55 is 40...but unless you find a 4400 that was hermetically sealed in a barn in 1976, you are going to have to work on both of them...the 55 is A LOT better machine to work on. And a 4400 gasser can't be kept cool unless its not running. [Reply]  [No Email]
