In the early 1970's the 2 drum mower came here from Europe. They have swinging knife blades to cut the grass. This one is missing its top cover and skirts.

They will cut long matted grass faster than a finger bar mower, no blocked fingers or broken knives. To-day many companies make these

Do you have these in USA?

These mowers were quite popular in our area at one time most farms used these they were 2 drum and we also had 4 drum models P/Z Zweegers made in Holland if I remember correctly we are on the far Northwest coast of California, as I look at your pictures of your farming practices over there they are very close to over here we have several small dairies in our area, they put up wraped round and wraped large square bales for silage.

My Dad had one just like it. Cut good too, just slow with only two drums. Called a PZ Cutter.

We have disc mowers over here but I have never seen a drum mower like that. Is there some type of shoe under the drum to maintain cutting height? Seems it would cut into the ground without some type of cutting height control.

There are discs underneath the drums which run on the ground to stop the discs digging in.

Yes. They have dominated the market for years. Now the big guys are covering 30' or better with front mounted, and side mounted, or pull behind models.
