JDseller 10-06-2012 06:53:43 208.126.196.144 Report to Moderator	I saw the earlier post about a guy wondering if a JD 9500 and JD 9600 would use the same headers. It made me remember when the JD 9600 came out. We sold one the first year. It came in to the dealer a month or two before the farmer was ready for delivery. So we displayed it out front. One day the shop people where all laughing their butts off. They would not tell us what the joke was. We had taken a JD 300 husker in on trade and had it sold. The newer owner needed a JD 3 row narrow head or JD 343 on it. So they had to take the JD 244 off the husker. They had put the JD 244 on the JD 9600 and set it out front. You could not hook the drives up but it did fit the feeder house opening. We left it that way for a week or so. It really made people stop and look at it. Some of my IH buddies said that that was all the header that the combine would handle. I told them they where right in that my corn was so good anything more and I could not get across the field. LOL It was all in good clean fun. Not much of that happens in the cookie cutter chain dealerships anymore. Working for the smaller dealerships made for some real tight crews. I miss those days. Yea, Gleaner kinda messed up, when you changed silver combines, you had to most often change heads too, so it became easy to change colors - had to trade everything anyhow. I would still have a Gleaner if there were dealers around here anymore. When people ask about header interchangeability I tell them that's one area AC/Gleaner totally fell down on. [Reply]  [No Email]
