Anyone have any ideas on what might be causing ongoing problems with the grain shoe on a N.I. 818 combine. Twice in the last 2 years, the clamps that hold the shoe to the shaker shaft have sheared on 1 side, resulting in damage to the shoe, not to mention 1/2 day to take it out and 1/2 day to reinstall. All the rubber bushings and related bearings are as new . I am getting frustrated with the old girl!

If it is anything like the old shellers (729A). The main pivot bushings would let it shake a little corner ways causing problems. Also if the spline for the pitman is at all loose it will cause the shoe to shake in a corner wise motion that will do the same thing. Really makes for the sieve to go to pieces fast.

Maybe a slight twist in the shaker shaft, so the sides are not running even?

I was wondering if that might be possible...not the shaker shaft but rather the shaft the pitman arms drive off of. I have tried to determine if the pitman arms are in the exact same position but it is pretty hard to get an accurate measurement,

I have always heard the 818's have had a hard time holding together compared to the 717's, just don't handle speed well at all... That coming from a Uni dealer/parts specialist who he himself now uses a 7720 to harvest his beans... But he also refers to the JD as a "side step" to the 818.
