I have located a 715 that is fore sale. It does not have any heads with it. The guy wants 1000. for it. He seems straight up and has all new belts to go with it. He said he replaced some of the bearings last year. Cranks right up. There is one sproket on the right that needs to be replaced. I am not familiar with the IH combines. Is this a good buy? It has the diesel motor. I dont know how many hours are on it. I am loking for a small combine for my farm.

make sure it has the 800 series qt, I have seen decent 715's sell for 1/2 of that, I'd offer him $750.00

I say good buy depending on the condition of the tin. Diesel motor is a huge plus. Heads are easy to find, but in my opinion can be more of a money pit than the actual combine.

Not really familiar with the pricing on IH stuff, but the heads will probably run you $750-$1250 depending on rigid or flex. The price sounds good on the combine especially with all new belts, they're expensive!!

I think it is a good buy also. He bought a rotary combine this year so he wants to sell this one. What heads will work on the 715. Looking for a grain head and a 4 row corn head.

The 715 was a good combine. We had a diesel version for a few years. Four row corn head and 13-15 ft grain table. Originally came I believe with a 700 series platform and 800 series corn head. I'd avoid the 700 series grain head and upgrade at least to the newer 800 or better yet a 1020. The 800 grain heads are fairly cheap, the better 1020's are quite a bit more expensive. Make sure the 715 has the capability for automatic head control with the newer heads for doing beans. Will need at least cable control. Upgrade to electronic control would be expensive if you can even get the parts. The 800 series corn head is heavy and pretty old but works fine. A 900 or 1000 series corn head will also work but is a lot more expensive. Early 900 gear boxes had problems, but I assume anything still being used has been fixed.

Price is relatively cheap if the guy is straight up on what he's told you and the tin is straight, shows no sign of abuse. a 15 ft 1020 flex grain platform will suit you well, but these are not cheap in good working condition.

800 series corn heads will work perfect. Not sure on the grain heads.
