| Service manuals are something you have to buy from a dealer. Whiz Kid has given you a link to the Parts Manuals and while having one of those is a good idea, it isn't remotely similar to the service manual you seek. Send me an e-mail and I'll hook you up with a first-rate dealer. |

| Tom Thank You, I do have the parts list from on line. I went to the dealer and the price was $80.00 for the service manual, I thought that a little high so I thought on line I might get one. Is $80.00 a good price from the dealerI spoke to you about the Case 190 that needed a lot of work so I bought the Ingersoll Thank You John |

| I would do as Tom suggested in getting the owner's manual. That's all I've ever owned on my Wards tractor by Gilson. It covers a lot of things and has pictures. Hal |

| John, I'm not sure as to why you believe that you need a true service manual for your tractor. Much of the routine service is covered in the Operator's Manual and these can be had for around ten bucks from a dealer. Service manuals are essentially made up from a stack of individual manuals that cover specific parts. For instance, a service manual for a 446 would have a booklet that deals only with the travel/lift valve, another that deals with the steering, another that deals with the electrical system, another that deals with the trans-axle and so forth. Rarely will an owner find the need for these books but if that happens, there are two groups out there that deal specifically with these tractors. You already belong to the Yahoo Case group. The FILES section there is a wealth of information. The other group is My Tractor Forum. I have put about a dozen service bulletins into the MTF library so far and another member supplied about 8 more. Any question about your tractor that cannot be found in those bulletins can be answered by members on these forums. In other words, I don't see the merit in spending the $80.00 for something that you will rarely make use of, especially when you can obtain the information you seek at no cost via these forums. Overall, the Case and Ingersoll tractors are quite simple in design and easy to work on. Aside from that, very little goes wrong with them. The asking price for the service manual sounds about right but I'd have to check with my dealer buddy to verify. |

| Johno 107, Go to Ingersolltractors.com . When the page comes up click on the Illustrated Parts List link at the top of the page and then when that page comes up scroll down and look under the heading " Compact Tractors with Manual Steering " . Scroll down that list until you see your model number . There are three listings for that model as they have broken up the serial number list down into three categories . . You will have to see which of the three your model falls under . Also , make sure that your model does have manual steering and that is your model. I guees the manual and power steering versions of that model is basically the same. I copied and pasted the three model / serial number lists below to show you which one to click one and as to what I was talking about . I believe that yours falls into the bottom link . I clicked on it and brought the page up and I listed it as a link below to your model so that you could click directly on it and go straight to it. If the link dosen't work then go to the webpage and follow the steps listed above to get to it.
Whizkidkyus
Here is the three model / serial number list that I was talking about . I believe that your model is in the bottom serial listings.
MODEL 4016 – PIN 14170800 AND AFTER MODEL 4016 – PIN 14149628 TO 14170800 MODEL 4016 – before PIN 14149628 |

| I'd get it and study it some so as to familarize myself with the inner workings of the tractor. And you'll probably get the cost of the manual back if you sell the tractor with it.At shop rates of around $50 to $80 an hr you'll pay for it by fixing something minor |

| Hello Sir,I guess the price depends on how in detail the book is and and what all it covers and to what explicit detail. Also , it also depends on how gib the book is . I wouldn't want to pay that for a little romance size book that's real thin , but if it was the size of a encylopidea book , then that would be better. But most importantly it all depends on how informative the book is , not the actual size of it. I don't know if you went to the company direct or to a indepentant dealer . I've noticed that sometimes the price is cheaper if you cut out the middle man . So try the company directly . You'll have the added cost of shipping , etc. but it still might be cheaper.. Also , look on Ebay you might catch one on there. Or check into a club for these tractors , like they have for the Cub Cadets , you might fined used ones there. I guess that the price ultimately boils down to how bad you need it and how informative ( indepth details ) it is. It also depend on how much money that you want to put into it as well as to wheather or not you think that you can afford it or not.. Also it also depends on what you think about the price . I think that it's high and I'd hate to pay that price, but that's just my personal opinion. No matter what the size of the book or the cost is , the information found inside may be worth millions.
