My brother-in-law bought a new Craftsman 20 HP last summer. I think it is a one-cylinder engine. For some reason, every time he turns the key off it backfires. He had some warranty work done on the deck and asked the tech about it. He said the guy told him to kill it at half throttle to keep that from happening. It didn't help. Is there an adjustment on the carb that would stop it? Butch |

| Hello woodbutcher, If the idle setting is too high it will backfire. Just turn it down a bit and try it. Guido. |

| Turn the key on and listen to the carb. Is there a click? If there is, the solenoid is probably working.
Shut it off wide open. |

| There might a solenoid on the carb that is bad or not working due to dirt that cuts the fuel off when the key is turned off. |
