Hi:

I have a Cub Cadet model 149 with a front PTO Clutch. As near as I can tell the clutch is slipping. My manual says that the clutch is set at factory and should not need adjusting and does not give any instructions on adjusting it.

Can anyone provide instructions for adjusting? Also can anyone describe the inner working of the clutch? What grabs what to turn the belt?

Additional info:

With the PTO engaged and mower deck lowered the belt at the PTO spins slowly. You can almost read the number on the belt. The belt is new and is adjusted tight. Raising the mower deck up and the sin increased dramatically. Lowering the deck and it will cut fine but will slow down again after 5 or 20 min of cutting.

Thanks
PaMnd

Belts usually have a short life, if there is something amiss. Check all bearings (spindle & mule drive), all pulleys for wear and as mentioned prior, alignment.

It is imperative, that you use the correct belt as specified by IH/Cub Cadet. Aftermarket, hardware, or automotive belts are NOT the same.

The Cub Cadet belt is a Ag Type of belt that allows for the bending and twisting that others do not.

The PTO needs to be removed to adjust. A gauge comes with the rebuild kit.

Click on this link for PTO adjustments..... PTO

You make no mention of the model of deck you are using. However, on the surface it sounds like you have not got the right belt.

Hi:

Thanks for the reply and the link. This gives me a good place to start.

The mower deck is the 44 inch deck. The belt was just replaced three weeks ago and it is the same belt number and type that has been used for the last 8 years. I also replaced the deck belt at the same time in case the belts were worn (they were actually only 3 months old) but it made no difference.

Thanks
PaMnd
