I finally fixed my Cub 1812. Well, the first thing I replaced since it last ran was the PTO clutch. After putting the new one on, I had problems starting it. Short story - I forgot to remove the muffler mounting bolts and put the clutch on crooked so it was binding. The clutch should mount flush on the engine. It was hard to notice this with all the engine shielding on it. Once I pulled the clutch off and installed it right, it fired right up.But I did a lot of things before going back to the beginning: 1. New starter (yes 8 volts at the starter is OK) 2. New starter solenoid (12 volts here is right) 3. New ignition switch 4. New fuel pump 5. New battery 6. Cleaned carb. The mower worked great and runs like a new machine. It only has 400 hours on it. At least I have some spare parts. It was a painful experience but my own fault. I'm glad it didn't have to be hauled to a dealership after spending so much on parts already. Larry |
