First thing to do is either check battery with a hydrometer or remove & have load checked, most problems associated with an overcharging condition in an unregulated system are caused by weak/bad cell(s) in battery due to the fact internal resistance of battery changes with charge level & this acts as a regulator for alt output on eng,due to the low charge rate(1.5A-3A)and the fact alt is always charging battery this tends to shorten life of battery in the long run.If battery checks out ok & you suspect system overcharging due to a constant hi current/voltage reading on dash meter(if tractor has)then problem may be a shorted inline diode on alt output or a problem in alt stator, goto link below & download service/repair manual(free download)for magnum eng in section 8 of manual it will tell you how to troubleshoot 3A charging system. |
