joe csuti 12-01-2012 05:08:24 151.198.126.99 Report to Moderator	Any of you guys read several online articles the past few days about E-15(15% ethanol) gas oil companies are/want to sell? In articles the AAA wants EPA to stop gas sale/pull from market this type of gas due to fact that many auto mfg are saying long term use of same may void warranty on both new/older cars depending on damage to fuel system/eng. Most small eng mfg recommend a max 10% ethanol content in gas,it is a well known fact 10% loves to eat hose,pump diaphrams and certain types of plastic's used in fuel systems along with gumming up carbs & possible internal eng damage,this new gas may add more problems/headaches to existing fuel system problems we have with 10% ethanol in addition to voiding eng mfg/equipment mfg warranty with use of same. You may have to do some carefull shopping around for gas by either asking/reading pump before buying/pumping gas as to ethanol content of gas to protect your small eng/car eng & warranty for either. As it stands, the EPA will NOT certify it to meet current emission standards in engines produced before the 2007 model year. This makes it illegal to use in those engines. Sale of E-15 to the general motoring public would require the use of "fail-safe" labeling and dispensing of the E-15 product to prevent its use in non-certified applications. This would entail seperate pumps, strong labeling, and perhaps a change in the means of introducing it into the fuel system of qualified vehicles - much like the restrictor plates that were introduced in 1975 to prevent the use of leaded gasolines into cars equipped with catalytic converters. I might point you to "www.pure-gas.org" website. This site contains links to a lot of information regarding ethanol use and current state of legislation in regards to fuels. The EPA has said after a lot of study that e-15 is safe in cars newer than 2001 or something like that. I do think they should have left it at e-10 to avoid a lot of confusion with 10 vs 15. Ethanol has been around since the 70's. If engine manufactures and their plastic/rubber line suppliers haven't figured out how to make them run on it, they have bigger problems. We have a local chain of gas stations here and they have told him his town has 100% gas, but the same brand(same owner)is mixed 15 miles away. I try to run 100% Premium gas in the 2 stroke stuff and the mower with the snow blower on it. In our area it is hard to buy straight gas without the ethanol. [Reply]  [No Email]
