Mower Deck clutch will engage then cut out. Charging output is around 14V, But Iam finding the battery "run down" at times after mowing. The battery is very small 220 CCA. Is it possible that the Electomag clutch is drawing more amps than the output of voltage and that battery can Provide???

BTDT. Your battery is going bad. My mower just quit while I was mowing. Put in a new battery, problem solved.

Thank-you for your replies. Funny thing is the Dern thing always starts. On my JD mower when the clutch wont engage the battery is too run down to Start it.

I use a full size car battery on my Wards garden tractor. I had to use a battery with the
terminals on the side like GM vehicles used to clear the hood. I always use Walmart batteries
and it was in use for 10 years. It was still starting the tractor, but I decided to replace it
a few weeks ago. Hal

If battery more than 1 yr old check with a hydrometer or remove & have load checked, you may have a cell weak/going bad,if battery has to be replaced try moving up to a 350-375 cca battery or the largest cca capacity battery that will fit in battery holder.

If battery checks out ok,measure current draw on clutch coil,if nobody here replies as to current draw of coil, check with local simplicity dealer, they should be able to tell you current draw of coil, most clutches draw 3.5-5A

You might also want to get a service/repair manual for eng from local dealer, briggs website or ebay & checkout charging system on eng.
