Yesterday I bought what was billed as a 1919 fordson f (all orginal and unmodified) at an estate auction. I also got a bunch of books and an orginal 1920 fordson manual. From what I have been reading it looks like more of a 1920 machine. It has 7 spoked wheels ect.. Can someone tell me where to look for the serial number? And is there a parts manual? From what I have been told it has been in the family since new. The last owners uncle bought it new and the uncle sold it to him in 1950 where it sat in his garage since then. Supposedly he had it running again 10 years ago. |

| The stamped in serial number is located on a machined area just between the first exhaust port and first intake port. Sometimes depending on the type of manifold gasket it could be hidden. Also these were hand stamped and can be very light and or rusted away. They made both an operators manual and a parts manual. they can both be found on ebay from time to time. Also a newer parts manuals will show most of the older parts, unless they were totally replaced by the new item.
If you can not find a serial number, I can help you date the tractor by features, as many little things changed over the years. For example a dash without fender holes is 1922 or older. Oil pan with only a small drain plug is 1919 or older. 6 spoke rear wheels were used up to mid 1920. There are many other fine details to look for.
Also if it is a 1919 or 1920, look for casting dates. Most tractors 1922 and older will have casting dates on different part. A common place is on the left side of the dash facing the engine. Good luck with your new purchase!
