Topic: oil to use in my fordson major backhoe?

I am draining and cleaning the oil in my sherman backhoe and cleaning out the system, does anyone know what kind of oil to put back in? What is in it now does not look like hydraulic oil, it looks more like 90w goop. The oil in it now is brown and very old. Should i use hydraulic oil or gear oil?

| Before 1988, there could have been whale oil in the fluid.

| My major had the same thick nasty goop in it that looks like some form of gear lube. I drained and flushed it out and put Case Ih hy-tran in mine and have been pleased with it. Hy-tran is suppose to have the ability to help slow down some leaks as well.
