Darwin; My 62 Dexta is positive ground. However, red is a color, not a polarity. Yes, it SHOULD be on the positive terminal but.... Check polarity carefully. Practically all alternators are negative ground. My Power Major was converted to alternator before I got it; negative ground now. These are great tractors in my world. HTH, have fun.best Yeoman

| Yeoman. Thanks for reply. The battery on Super Dexta was hooked negative ground when I got it. It wasn't running and hadn't been for awhile. I don't think whoever had it knew much about it from what I am finding. Just as long as Ford didn't change their electrical policy on the 1964 models. Darwin

| With a generator, it can be either pos or neg earth as it depends on which way the generator has been polarised.(My Super Dexta and Petrol Dexta are both neg earth.)TSG.

| TSG. You are right about generator, but what about starter. It would have to be changed since polarity change, changes direction of rotation. Can I ask about your Dexta's starters? Darwin

Your starter will not rotate in the wrong direction even if you reverse the polarity. Only permanent magnet motors will do that. Your starter would even work on 12 volts AC because it is of the wound field type.
