Thanks, DandyDave for the reply stating that my PTO must be engaged for the lift to work... It works fine! You saved me from pulling the hydraulic cover. I really appreciate it! |

| I think up is the right position. I never touch mine so I will have to look again to be sure. Maybe the spring is weak, or broken that holds it up. I have a few JD's also. A 1937 BO on iron, And a 1939 A on correct 36 inch rubber and three piece rims. We mostly used John Deere tractors on the farm my dad had for 47 years. A 4020 was my favorite, 4030 and 4230 in later years. Now back to blue....Dandy Dave! |

| I didn't know it!... Never owned a ford before now. 2 cyl. JD's are much more familiar...I'm likin' the old Fordson ,though! Got another easy question for you. Is Up or Down the normal position for the compression release lever on the front of the valve cover? It was stuck when I got the tractor. It seems to decompress by pushing it down, but honestly it doesn't run that much different either way. If I push it up when running it slowly creeps back to the down position. Thanks again,Dave! |

| Check the archives. You aren't supposed to run it with the compression release open. It apparently was meant to be used only when turning the engine by hand when working on it. May bump valves into pistons in some models. Could be as simple as how thick your head gasket is. |
