RodInNS 02-27-2013 11:49:24 216.118.158.123 Report to Moderator	Re: Boy is Ford proud of their clutches in reply to Bern, 02-27-2013 10:29:30   Of course another way of looking at it is... that 79 cent spring probably came in a box with 24 others to the warehouse by freight that probably cost about $1 each, was handled by a parts clerk that's making 40K plus per year driving around on a lift that cost 40K to purchase, using a parts system that probably cost 10 million to have developed in a warehouse that cost 40 million to setup. On top of that you have people who must input data into said parts system to keep part information up to date so that you actually get the CORRECT 79 cent spring for your 65 year old tractor from whatever supplier they happen to be using at this point in time. Then said 40K parts clerk goes on 40K parts buggy and retreives and packages your 79 cent spring into a 2 dollar box with another 2 dollars worth of stuffing and sends it out to a dealer for another 15 bucks freight where the dealer then marks it up enough to try and make some money on it... or, for those that know so much about springs... they can go to the hardware store and buy what they need... and for those that don't know about springs... well... they come on here and complain about how much NH charges for their knowledge of parts on 60 year old tractors. Still doesn't explain why NH can charge $75 for a seal that Deere would sell for $20. I see this over, and over, and over again on multiple types of like-for-like parts. As an example, both Deere and NH (Ford) used to use ZF front drive axles. I used to buy parts for drive axles for a Ford tractor, FROM Deere, over the counter, for less than dealer cost at a NH dealership. Didn't matter whether it was tie rod ends or u-joints, the result was always the same.   [Reply]  [No Email]

I don't see a lot of difference. Every once and a while I get something from one or the other... and get pleasantly surprised... but not too often. What I do fairly often see... is that any part that NH has a stranglehold on... that has no aftermarket source... then they really nail you. I find the same with Deere tho. Rod   [Reply]  [No Email]
