I noticed that there are two adjusting screws in the engine block just below the injection pump and towards the front side of the engine. Both screws are wire tied with a lead seal. What are they for? I have an IT manual for my 1310 tractor and nowhere in the manual does it show or talk about the screws. I have the front cover off of it and the govenor exposed. The bottom screw is a stop for the govenor. The top screw is long and has a special spring on the end of it. It reminds me of a buffer screw for a Detroit engine. It looks to me like it is only to be adjusted if the front cover has been distrubed? How is it adjusted? Who made this 3 cyl. engine for Ford? |

The ford service manual at the dealer does not cover any info on this screw. I need to know how far the small coil spring screws onto the adjusting screw.

Thanks for the replies. The more I studied the govenor I relized the top screw is for setting the high idle rpm. The bottom short screw is for the internal govenor stop. The top screw has a stiff compression spring on the end of it that pushes on the internal govenor linkage to make the govenor spring tenioner stiffer or loser. The problem that I have is the top screw spring is shorter than it should be and the engine would not throttle up. Had I known this I would not have removed the front cover for inspection and repairs. All I need to do now is reassmble and set the high RPM.

I would not touch it without first buying a real Ford OEM Repair Manual and a OEM Parts Manual. IT manual shows just enough to get you in trouble. Tom

I can't help with your questions about the 2 screws, but I'm pretty sure that it was Shibaura, a Japanese company, that made pretty much the entire tractor for Ford, including the engine.
