I've never been in to one of those pumps. But as a general rule, when it comes to bushings and bearings a bit of prelube is always a plus. It might take a few minutes - sometimes even an hour of running to pull enough oil from the rear end up into that pump to make it prime. A bit of grease will wash out quickly when it does prime and is cheap insurance in the meantime. |

| | Okay, I had some grease in it, but not like packing a front wheel bearing if you know what I mean. Is that what you had in mind? just a little grease to get by until priming? Chad |

| I generally use white lithium grease on things like that. I would not hesitate to squeeze a teaspoon full into, onto, around and beside the bearing and race. As long as it didn't interfere with assembly, why not? Lube is cheap compared to hard parts. |

| | i agree.. I'd see no problem lubing the seals and bearings, even if they will be splash or imersed lubed later. I pact pto beairng snad lube the selas and the entire assemble in wheel beairng grease when i R&R them... same with the ballnut and other bearings in a steering box. i don't see how it could hurt as long as it goes back together correctly.. |
