dj in pa. 10-21-2012 09:20:44 75.75.181.24 Report to Moderator	I am considering buying a 800 or 900 series tractor with a 172 diesel. question is can you get parts for these diesels if something goes wrong? Also do these have a smoke screw to turn up the power? I have a lot of hours on a gas 840 and I really think with a torque amplifier it would have been the perfect tractor. and thought a diesel would be a nice addition.TIA [Reply]   [No Email]

If you have a gasser 840 and are not happy with the hp... get a 4000 or 4600 3 cyl. if you have a gas 840 and ar ok with the power but not the fuel economy.. then an 841d might be ok.. :) [Reply]  [No Email]

None of the 600, 700, 800 or 900 series models were ever available with a diesel engine, but the 601, 701, 801 & 901 were. Now you might find a tractor that has a diesel engine from a later tractor that has been retrofitted into an 800 or 900 series tractor, but it wasn't original. [Reply]  [No Email]

I have NO idea what it is. I'm not sure what you're calling a "smoke scr*w." Some Stanadyne/Roosamaster pumps have "torque screw." I doubt the Ford 172 has it - but cannot say for sure. Regardless, ALL Stanadyne/Roosamaster pumps have a scr*w you can turn in to increase max. fuel delivery. That being said, diesels without turbos rarely respond very much except for making extra smoke. All depends on how "detuned" it was when it left the factory. The Ford 172 diesel makes max 41 horse at 2200 RPM . A gas 172 makes 47 horse at 2200 RPM. Gas engines always make more power then equal bore and stroked diesels (equally aspirated) and 41 horse sounds like it's already set pretty high in fuel delivery. You might squeak 1 or 2 more horse out of it along with some smoke. Can't say I've tried. [Reply]  [No Email]
