Had trouble with gas shooting out of gas tank when releasing
gas cap about 2 feet. It made old gas tank leak so replaced
with after market tank. I raised gas tank up as high as I could
get it then had trouble with starting tractor, which then needs
cranked several times before starting. Didn"t have this issue
before changing tank. Took gas line loose from inline fuel filter
and the gas is getting to the fuel filter. Sometimes the fuel filter
will be about half full and if you run tractor it empties fuel filter.
Checked the spark plugs which were black with carbon, which
cleaned and gapped them and the tractor is still hard to get
started. Any suggestions?

Blowing out the lines might help. What about the heat shield, is it installed?

The heat shield is on the new tank I put holes in the gas cap
have not run much but.does not seem to get hot I ran it for half
hour bottom of tank did not feel hot problem is its hard to start
when it was easy to start before changing tanks that's why it
could be something blocking lines or shutoff

Maybe when installing the new tank some dirt worked its way into the sediment bowl filter. Assuming you have a M/S carb with a sed bowl, try dropping it down and cleaning it and the filter. After re-installing it, open the tank valve and the sed bowl should fill. Either way, open the carb bowl drain and leave it open till fuel runs out of the bowl. Sometimes it seems like air gets trapped in there. If it still is hard to start after blowing out the lines and doing the above, maybe the carb needs cleaned out inside.

ditto on the kinked line.. and I'd loose the filter, and ditto on venting the cap.

make sure sed bowl fitler is in place and tank filter.

make sure heat shield is in place.

Any chance that when you raised the tank you pulled a kink into the line? When you say that the filter gets empty when running the engine is that while under load or while idling? Try changing or bypassing the filter.
I would suggest you either get a vented gas cap or take a 1/8 inch drill and drill a hole right through the center of the one you have. Try to avoid removing the cap if engine is real hot. Is your heat shield installed? -Will
