JAL1012 10-15-2012 13:41:05 205.175.129.213 Report to Moderator	Had trouble with gas shooting out of gas tank when releasing gas cap about 2 feet. It made old gas tank leak so replaced with after market tank. I raised gas tank up as high as I could get it then had trouble with starting tractor, which then needs cranked several times before starting. Didn"t have this issue before changing tank. Took gas line loose from inline fuel filter and the gas is getting to the fuel filter. Sometimes the fuel filter will be about half full and if you run tractor it empties fuel filter. Checked the spark plugs which were black with carbon, which cleaned and gapped them and the tractor is still hard to get started. Any suggestions? [Reply]   [No Email]

Assuming you have a M/S carb with a sed bowl, try dropping it down and cleaning it and the filter. After re-installing it, open the tank valve and the sed bowl should fill. Either way, open the carb bowl drain and leave it open till fuel runs out of the bowl. Sometimes it seems like air gets trapped in there. If it still is hard to start after blowing out the lines and doing the above, maybe the carb needs cleaned out inside. [Reply]  [No Email]
JAL1012 10-16-2012 10:18:17 205.175.129.213 Report to Moderator	Re: 850 series Ford in reply to JAL1012, 10-15-2012 13:41:05   No kinks in line already drilled hole in cap gas goes out of fuel filter just idling went to NH dealer said shutoff in bottom of tank could be partly block or where the line runs down to another elbow with another shut off is could be partly blocked said drain tank blow out lines and shutoff out took bolt out off bottom of carburetor no gas in bottom of carburetor put new fuel filter on when I put new tank on their is some dirt in it the fuel filter took air hose blew thought it air came out the tractor use to start real easy maybe need to blow lines out [Reply]  [No Email]

When you say that the filter gets empty when running the engine is that while under load or while idling? Try changing or bypassing the filter. I would suggest you either get a vented gas cap or take a 1/8 inch drill and drill a hole right through the center of the one you have. Try to avoid removing the cap if engine is real hot.
