C229017 is a 1969 serial number.
C101E is part of a model number. The C at the beginning means that it's a 3000 series. The E at the end means that it's a Select-O-Speed transmission, but there's not enough numbers in between to make a full model number, but I'll guess that the digit just before the last E is missing and that it's either a 4 or a 5, indicating either single or dual speed independent PTO, as all S-O-S tractors had one or the other (or no PTO, which is very rare), so I'll go out on a limb and say that the "10" after the C is for a general purpose ag chassis and the second 1 is for a diesel engine, and the real model number is C1014E or C1015E.
9C12B means that it rolled off the assembly line on March 12, 1969 during the day shift. |

| Thank you Sean. I still haven't learned how to make some sense out of those numbers. The tractor in question stands on stilts about 8' off the ground. |

| Like this one? This was at Almelund. Stickers say 4000, but I noticed it has the single reduction rear end. |
