Ok guys and gals. I've got:

1- Ford 2000 diesel tractor (8 speed trans) - loads of hours, no power steering, non locking differential, bad steering sector, worn hydraulic pump.
1- Ford 2600 gas tractor (6 speed trans) with power steering, locking differential, has low hours ~1000 hours - has a bad clutch, seized engine.

I want to make one complete tractor.

Does anyone know where i could translate/decode the transmission, rear axle, hyd. pump, & lift numbers located under the hood?

If it were to have the same ratio in the rear axle, i would like to swap the diesel engine and 8 speed trans from the 2000 onto the 2600 axles.

The rear axle codes are different from one another, but there is a large gap in date of manufacture and one axle is of locking type.

Thanks for any input!

Ultradog MN said: (quoted from post at 12:31:14 10/01/12) 2000 gasser, 3000 gasser and 2000 diesel = 158 ci = 4.2 bore X 3.8 stroke

3000 diesel = 175 ci = 4.2 bore X 4.2 stroke

4000 gas and diesel = 201 ci = 4.4 bore X 4.4 stroke

Except: early 4000 gasser used 192 ci = 4.4 bore X 4.2 stroke

2/3000 block can not be bored out to 4.4 though all 3 cyl engines will interchange.

Actually, the early (prior to 4/1/68) 4000 gas = 192 ci = 4.4 bore x 4.2 stroke

My next question pertains to adding horsepower. :)

Correct me if I'm wrong. The 2000, 3000, 4000 series use the same 3 cylinder block, wether it be a gas or diesel, all sharing the same bore.

The pistons and rods are also the same size.

The crankshaft/ stroke is the only difference? Is there a different cam, injection pump and injectors used on 3000/4000? Could it be that simple as swapping cranks and then tuning injection pump?

According to the New Holland parts site, all 3 cylinder 2000's with the standard ag chassis and without the S-O-S transmission had 6.16:1 final drive gear ratio, and so did all standard ag chassis 2600's.

The S-O-S 2000's had 6.67:1.

Well that makes me feel a little better. I was worried the finals
would be geared differently for a 6-speed than an 8.

I don't know where you'd find the info to decode the numbers but doubt that you need it.
Everything from a 2000 and 2600 are pretty much a direct swap.
Use the 2600 hyd pump and lines so you don't have to mess with them.
It would be an easy swap.
