Just to follow up on my post a couple of weeks ago. I ordered the after market water pump from this site, it was about $135 with shipping, it's an A&I pump made in Turkey. Quality looks decent, but the box didn't keep the pump from rolling around and it tore up the gasket before it got to me. I called as soon as I opened it and they had A&I send me another replacement gasket, but they sent the gasket that connects the halves, not the one for mounting the pump. Rather than waiting for the right one, I bought a roll of gasket material and cut my own, copying the one that was torn up that came with the pump. I installed it this weekend and so far it looks and works fine. No signs of leaks, no issues. Other than poor packaging, hopefully I am in good shape for many years to come. After almost 2 weeks lost with screwing around to get the pump, then the wrong gasket I'm glad to have it together. Next time I may go to the dealer and get the OEM front half as RickB suggested. Two weeks of down time at the end of my hay season for my haying tractor was disappointing over something as simple as a water pump. This did allow me the opportunity to flush out the cooling system and replace the antifreeze, which definitely was overdue.

The Tisco half pump that I got for the 3000 gasser a few months back is working fine, no leaks and no issues. I dropped a few extra bucks on the Shell Rotella ELC coolant from the local fleet supply house, it claims no additional SCA's are required and meets a long list of manufacturers specs for modern diesels.

My 4000su diesel has a similar product in it but it's not from Shell, I forget the exact name but it also claimed to have a full dose of SCA's.

Would you recommend adding additional stuff beyond that? Anyone using the test strips on their tractors? Seemed like overkill to me but I could be convinced otherwise.

Thanks in advance -

Greg

you either need to test strip it, use precharged, or do the measurement thing for concentration.

IE.. each gallong of AF gets x ounces of addative.. then add it that way at flushing..e tc.

Where so you buy the test strips? Is that a Napa item also? I always just measured at change, but I'm thinking that I should probably test all of my tractors and be sure I am in the right place.

the test strips have a lifespan, and are chemical specific in many cases.. ths I do the mix and add method at change. then go get strips at the next year based on who i got the chemical from

napa has strips.. cnh dealer has strips. international/navistar has strips.

Good update Brian.
Don't forget to add some more coolant conditioner to the antifreeze. Recommended as it prevents cavitation in the block and reduces the likelyhood of a pinhole into the combustion chamber.
Others here can probably recommend something from Napa or elsewhere but I didn't know what other brands would work so I just bought the stuff from CNH.

I bought a half gallon of it last spring from messicks with another order. I put the conditioner in with the first gallon of antifreeze so I didn't forget.
