Has anyone ever put a early 90s 6.6 out of a bus in a 9600? I got a reman one for less than the machine work was going to be one the 401. I had some guys say it would bolt right in with the tractor pan. The truck is a rear sump and the tractor is mid sump. And only 6 out of 10 of the bell housing bolts on the block line up. Any suggestions? Im very mechanicly inclined and have acces to a machine shop but this may be to much |

He was at a pull that I went to in central MA last summer. He said that it wasn't a really tough project. He didn't seem to have the power to compete on transfer sled though. |

| Agree with Rod. I think the killer will be the oil pump interference with the front bolster. |

| | Some guys where?? I don't think it was here.... I think given what you're into at this point you might want to investigate the return policy on the reman. I'd wonder what the quality of the reman is if it's less than the machine work for the ag block... or mabey find another quote for the machine work... I think if you look at the truck engine you may find that the crank has more bolt holes than the ag crank so that won't bolt a flywheel/hub. There's going to be significant plumbing to the intake and probably exhaust. Fuel plumbing will be completly different for the Bosch pump on the truck... and the list goes on. You may also run into difficulty fitting the front bolster of the tractor once the engine is bolted in place. You say it's a rear sump engine? I know the 9600 had a mid sump. Later ag engines had a front pump with a mid sump I think... so that front pump off the timing gears causes an interference with the front bolster of the tractor. Anyone that thinks this is a quick easy project and a cheap fix is generally sadly mistaken. It may be a project of interest to some... but I don't think it would be driven by economics or expediency. Rod |
