On my 64, 4000 I had to remove the gas tank to install a new shutoff. When I took the tank off there was a pan or shield between the tank and the valve cover. I can’t remember how it was on there but I don’t think it was correct. I assume it’s a heat shield. The lips were turned down I know. Does the wider end go towards the radiator or? Can anyone tell me the correct installation. Another question. The fuel line from the tank to the carburetor sets right against the exhaust manifold. Is this correct? |

| | The heat shield can only be installed in the proper orientation unless it has been modified. The edges do orient downward. The fuel line should pass behind the INTAKE manifold. It should not touch either intake or exhaust manifold. It is not necessary to remove the fuel tank to change the fuel shut off valve. Dean |
