My 4000 does not sound as loud as my 3600. I am talking about RPM. The 3600 is rated at 2000 rpm, and the 4000 is rated 2200 rpm, I am talking about a 52 hp 4000 74 model. the 3600 hundred is screaming wide open, and the 4000 sound like half that at wide open. The tack does not work on ether of the two. What can I buy to check them. The 3600 could be turning more than 2000 rpm ? |

| As UltraDog said, welcome to the forum!
These old tractors had screens in the fuel systems, and when you ran them out
of fuel they would suck up the dirt off the bottom of the tank and plug the screens.
Once you tell us which model it is someone can tell you exactly where they are.
Usually there's one in the top of the sediment bowl, one in the tank and one
in the elbow going into the carb on the older tractors. |

| | Fix the tach's... then see what you have. I would expect the 201 to be a good deal louder than the 175 at full bore. In my experience they are anyhow... and I've spent a LOT of hours on a pair of 201's. The muffler DOES make a HUGE difference. As far as adjusting the rpm... that's a simple scre adjustment that limits the travel of the throttle lever on top of the pump. There will be an idle screw and a high idle screw, both of which will have sealing caps over them that are wired in place... or should be. You just cut the wires, remove the caps and adjust as necessary. That said... if the caps are in place there's no real reason to think you ought to be adjusting the speed anyway. Rod |

| You can adjust the governors once you know if there is an issue. |

| Fix the tacks, good answer. But if tacks were fixed, and the 4000 rpm was not at 2200 how do I get it there? There was a diesel mechanic instructor that is no longer with us, loan me a gauge that you put on the pto shaft and read the rpm. The best that I can remember that was what I was doing, this was in 1970 something. |

| Do you mean that the 3600 is higher pitched, or louder or both? Lots of possibilities. Do they have identical mufflers? Could a bearing be going in the 3600? |

| I used to have a couple of 3000's, and their 175's were louder than my 4600's 201. May have been partly due to the mufflers. |
