Earlier today working the driveway with the blade a couple of times I had a strange noise but only in reverse. Later hooked up the bush-hog and was in the field I started getting it occasionally going forward. After I got the recording device it didn't do it fro some time. Now it seems to be doing it all the time. Left it in the field for now. Doesn't seem to matter if the clutch is in or out, coasting or under power. Quits when not rolling. Please listen here.

Any advise is appreciated. I can't tell if it is coming from the clutch or brakes or where.

Thanks MDW

Update: Oil drained and strained, No metal! The plug had a magnet. The magnet had a minimal amount of dust, actually less than I would have suspected if there weren't a problem.

Refilled with oil and worked with the brush-cutter about 45 minutes without a problem or noise.

Either I'm the luckiest guy in Tennessee, have moved a major issue to a later date or maybe it still could be the throw-out.

Ultradog, I couldn't tell when it was going on any difference. Mine has that two position clevis in the linkage and it seemed the same in both places.

Rod, yes, only one time did I get it to make the sound in neutral with the clutch pedal released. It was quieter in neutral and quit on depressing the pedal.

Thanks .. Matt

Pull the drain plugs and find the metal... You're bound to have some after that racket.
Does it make the noise in neutral with the clutch pedal released? You may be able to narrow it down some by checking that...

Hard to tell but sounds like a bearing in the tranny. Also possible that it's the clutch throw out bearing. Does it help to adjust the clutch so you have more free play in the pedal?

MAN ! Do I feel stupid ! Just checked the tranny, and fluid was as you suspected. Put what oil I had on hand in and made a quick pass around with no noise.

Wonder what I damaged?

Thanks .. Matt

That was DEFINITELY a bearing noise, and it was awful! I suspect you'll have problems down the road, and very soon I'm afraid. A bearing that made noise like that cannot last much longer IMHO.

well.. it was my first guess. ;)

go fill with fluid and see what ya got.

have fun.. be safe.. and watch that fluid.

make sure you don't have an external leak, OR that another direct connected sump is not overfilling.

probably look at the bellhousing drain.. might be a wet clutch machine by now

Well, I just went to get her out of the field. Had to go in reverse to keep the noise away till I could get the bush-hog off. One time it made the sound when in neutral and not rolling with the clutch out. I'm pretty much convinced now it is in the clutch. I was hoping brakes because it feels like something is arresting the speed when the noise happens. She has a straight open muffler (PO), so I wear ear-muffs and it's hard to locate a noise. Without the muffs the exhaust is loud enough to make it hard as well.

No aux. hydros. Hasn't been long since replacing cross-shaft seals/bushings and topped fluid back off then but I will go check now. Lift is working fine. Thanks...
