Hi again everyone.

The Sherman Backhoe popped up on Craigslist today and I
snagged it. It is a 620 Serial number 121*** which I believe puts
it at a 1957. There is a Sherman Tranny in it, but I have no idea
which one. I was told it ran a year ago and while using it the
clutch went out, but that the engine ran. A couple of the hoses
are unhooked and a couple need replaced, but it appears to be
somewhat ok. One rear tire new other cracked but ok, one front
tire missing from the rim and other questionable.
A couple of questions.
Is the tin on it original or was the ford script hood only for the
Jubilee/NAA?
Are these usable backhoes or prone to worthlessness?
Any comments appreciated.
Thanks Jason

Hello Jason , All 600/800 and 700/900 tractors have scripted hoods and fenders as did all NAA'S . As for your Sherman trans. it is a Combonation trans. I can see the shift handle in the pictures . A Manual Reversing trans. has a different shifter on it those were the only two trans. available in 1957 . Those Sherman's are better than the earlier one's and for yard work they are fine just stay out of the Rock and or Ledge and you won't break it . Thanks Tony

Thanks Tony. I appreciate it. There are no rocks in our our area and we intend to used it to put in building foundations and a septic tank every now and then.

Hello, I have a 1954 model B in the pic, I think yours is a model C, you can verify this by the id. plate underneath the hyd. tank on the base plate below( i think). Mine is a very useable hoe, i'm happy with it. Got it out of the scrap behind a dealership and restored it about 10 years ago. They are easy to fix up, but if the crome is bad on the cylinders it will be expensive. I got the 4 small cyl. and the bucket one cromed at $1,200.00. then $450.00 for packing and bushings. If the crome is good it will be a cheep fix up.

Check on the flat spot on top of the bell housing, just aft of the starter.

Maybe an 640?

Hello; As far as the hoe itself goes,I have had the same one for many yrs. Mine is on a 861 Diesel and has a 771 Ford loader on also. It has been a grt tool around the farm! I have redone the rams over the yrs, but it has always worked and dug fine. Nice to haul around if you had to. I v'e had the frt end loader off, and you can NOT steer the tractor! Looks like there is weight on the frt of yours. Ours is at the pit right now, as we are building a new shed, and use this to load our dump truck. Would I use this hoe to make a living with? NOOOO, but, for around the farm, perfect!!I can look on ours the next time I go for a load, to see the model #.maybe 14-16? Bobmn
