I took off my top cover as the hydraulic lift has not worked right for several years. It lifts and drops but will not hold in position correctly. I replaced piston seal and am now working on getting draft control and position control correct. I cannot seem to get both within limits. I noticed that the hydraulic piston connecting rod has a lot of slop in it where it fits with pin. Why is this? I bought a new rod and pin thinking this had to be a problem but the new one has similar slop in it. Why would this be? Any ideas appreciated. Thanks |

| The pin does nothing more than hold the connecting rod (dog bone) in place. If it wasn"t there the dog bone would fall out of the rocker arm that it is attached to. It is a loose fit so that the ball on the end can center itself in the cup of the rocker arm. If you cannot get the draft and position adjustments within specs you probably have a bent or worn draft control rod. I rebuilt one of my lift covers and I could not set the adjustments because the fork on the end of the draft control rod had a lot of wear in the holes that the pin fits through. I replaced it with a good use rod and everything worked OK. |
