after i put injectors in it does not smoke near as
bad,i did find out that the tach was wrong we ck
with digtal, i have to gt up to 2500 on tach to at
540 operating. an it was at 194 degrees when we
hooked up dyno. what gts me is if i turn up or dn
the smoke stays the same nothing happens to engine
perf; i thought had to rebuild these pumps ever now
an then.should i ck comp on cyl.she gt 5000 hrs
showing

Smoke.... there is a limit to what the injectors will inject. Once you hit a certain point you won't get any more power and mabey not a lot more smoke. Also... if you don't have the air to burn the fuel or even half burn the fuel it's not going to make more power. After a while you're just washin' down the walls.

Compression should be in the 400-450 psi range provided that the starter is winding her over at 200 rpm or so. If pressure is lower squirt a tablespoon or two of oil in and recheck and see if it improves. If it does... rings are bad. If it doesn't you've probably got valve trouble.

350-375 is a more realistic compression figure, especially for a turbo engine. Ford allows a minimum of 290 PSI.

290 seems a bit low? 350 I could live with. Granted I don't often check compression.... I've generally looked at oil consumption over time as much as anything on most of my own.

With 5000 hrs I certainly would do a compression check and if it"s good check the valve lash.
