After reading a few other threads and my operators manual, I think I may have another issue to deal with. I understand the gen. light is supposed to illuminate if there's an issue? Mine stays on all the time. It comes on as soon as I turn the key on which I believe it should because the gen. isn't turning yet but it stays on even when the engine is running. I'm pretty sure it's charging the battery because I've started it at least 50 times since I've owned it. Battery is reading 6.9V with tractor off even after all those starts. Any thoughts? Wiring issue? Thanks! Tom

usually gets me when I am running them out of

gas with the shut-off closed :D bad gas ya know

my idiot light alt ones aren't a problem cuz the light comes on.

on a couple others I wired in a very bright dash light to the key on.

(ones that sleep in the barn/shop/shed aren't a problem because

they always get a battery cable pulled......ya, I'm fire paranoid)

I hooked mine into the control line into the Alternator. Works great.

Quoting Removed, click Modern View to seeIf wired correctly, the lamp is across the BATT to ARM terminals of the Voltage Regulator (although this actual wire path is via the ignition switch). This means that as soon as generator is outputting sufficient voltage, the BATT to ARM contacts inside the VR colse, thus shorting across the lamp, so it extinguishes.

That is very possible.. I did that when I converted my 641 to 12 volt. Saves my points from being fried 'cause I left the key on..

I just can not understand how you can leave the key on with a gas motor considering you turn the key off to kill the motor.

John,
Let's see.
1) Run out of gas.
2) Stall out pulling.
3) Too slow Idle and stall.
4) Cold engine stall before warmed up.

LOL
Diesel is easy to forget key. Gas harder but does happen.

Keith;
If my tractor stalls out and I get mad enough to just get off of it and walk back to the house......

Leaving the key on is the least of my problems.
LOL......

Yes I have left the key on with my diesel motor even though I have the dash charging light that comes on when the engine kills.

Chris;
I guess the point I was trying to make; but my people skills did not allow me to say it out right was...........
(1) Do you need to choke the engine to get it to kill because turning the key off does not work;
OR
(2) Do you choke the engine because that is the way you like to kill it.

As a person with a bad case of ADHD I understand procrastination and having many projects 1/2 finished so I can understand #1

Not that it is wrong because to each his own; I just do not understand #2

Yeah sounder,
I was pulling stuff out of my butt.
Point is I have left a key on. Gas and diesel.
My 7000 (7200) was the worst. I would come in from the field and let it cool at 1000 rpm after plowing (etc). Then from the ground reach up and pull the fuel stop and forget to turn the key. That shortens the life of a battery real quick to run them clear down a couple times.
