Hi Guys, I could use a little help. My data plate on my 3400 says I should have an 8 speed transmission. I think it's been changed out someewhere along the line but not sure. Best I can tell I have four forward speeds and four reverse speeds and if I understand the book this is a shuttle type transmission refered to as manual reversing. I have the following based on my best guess:
In Low (forward) I have what I believe to be 1st gear in the upper right and 2nd gear in the upper left. I have Reverse below each of these.
In High I have 3rd gear in the upper right and 4th in the upper left with reverse below each of these. Does this sound right
I was looking to find a new shift pattern decal and can't find anything that matches. any help would be appreciated. :?: |

Sean, Thanks for the part number and the information. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and go for the partspring if they have it in stock. Thanks again for helping me out.

| According to my parts manual, the correct part number for the 4/4 manual reversing shift pattern decal is C5NN7B292JT. They do still appear to be available. partspring.com has them listed as available with 5 in stock. They're a little pricey, at $25.61 before shipping, but Messick's lists the same part for $26.38 and they don't have any in stock.
I looked at the web sites for the regular reproduction decal places, as they are normally less expensive than the New Holland dealer price, but none of them carry that one. There must not be as much of a demand for it than there is for the other more popular transmission models. |

The Hood Plate states: 34012C and the tractor is stamped 34012G. As you stated the hood or trans has probably been swapped at some point. In that it is a loader also I guess the 4/4 Manual Reversing trans is probably better I guess. Is there anywhere to get a replacement shift decal for it? I know it's a minor thing but I'd like to have it replaced. I didn't want to do a hack job and paint something on the dash!! There is no decal now and from the data plate I thought I had an 8 speed transmission and spent some time trying to figure out why I only had four forward gears. I guess anyone putting the thing in High mode and forth gear reverse must have a death wish. So far I've only used 2nd gear to run around the yard!!! Thanks for the help and if anyone knows where to get the correct decal please let me know.
Thanks
Craig |

| No problem. I understand completely. My wife and I took up photography a couple of years ago and are trying to build up a portfolio to post in some of the stock photo sites to try to generate a little income as we move toward our retirement years. |

| Ultradog, Sorry, I assumed that the other site's link was a hotlink back to the original picture, and that's what I copied. I've deleted it. Please post the proper link if you like. |

| I found where the poster had posted it over on the other forum. He did give me credit for it there. I'm not trying to cause a wizzing contest here but i do put a bit of effort into my photos and like to get credit for them as I try to do for other posters. You are free to use any and all of my photos any time you like but please hotlink them from my account is all I ask. Thanks |

| Sounds like your transmission has been swapped at some point, or maybe your hood was swapped, or maybe the C on your sticker is really a G but it got rubbed at some point so it now looks like a C. The transmission code for the 4/4 manual reversing transmission is G as opposed to the C for the 8 speed, so it would be easy to mistake a smudged up G for a C.
Check the numbers stamped into the flat spot on the transmission bell housing. The flat spot faces up and is just rearward om the tractor from the starter. Post those numbers as well as the numbers on the sticker under the hood.
The 4/4 manual reversing transmission, as far as I can tell, is the same as the 6/4 manual reversing version without the 2 extra forward gears, which I think they made as the "budget" shuttle trans for loader work, and they seem to be more prevalent on 3400 and 4400 utility models than they are on the 3500 and 4500 models.

| I'm a little irked to see MY photo being hotlinked from another site. Glad to share information and all but the least someone could do is hotlink it from MY photobucket account so I'd get credit for it. |
