super major 5000 rear axle

Hi As long as your tractor is the same style as the fordson major and power major from around 1952 -1964 with the 6 stud axle they will fit The only diference is the style of end.the super 5000 had a domed end with 3 holes in the end and the earlyer major had a large slot in it with a flat end.The only thing will be is that the axle ends will not be a pair this is only a cosmetic thing and won"t matter mechanically. The one I use here is odd.
The 6x&y worldwide series 5000 axle has 8 studs and are not interchangeable.
I hope this helps.
Regards Robert

thanks Robert, I know where there is a carcass of a early major (mid 50's). If it'll fit I'll see if the owner will part it out. Been told left and right axles are different, is that so? Mine has 6 studs, inner flange 4" or slightly less, bolt pattern 6.5" also the three holes or countersinks. Axles a problem on these tractors? Also had to tow it half a mile to get it to the shop, other than the wheel is ready to fall off could I have damaged the bull gear or hyd pump? Might be the weekend before I can disassemble it.

Hi dont quote me on this Im not 100% sure its been 10 years since i had a half shaft out but I believe that one of them has a left hand thread on the inside end.
If the tractor is used properly there should not be a problem with the shafts I dont know what happened to mine It was changed before I got it and the original owner that changed it is pushing up daisys so he cant help us.I am wondering if it has to do with being rough with the diff lock pedal or it being engaged if the pedal is seized and straining the shafts when turning corners. I know a few of the shafts got broke when we tractor pulled them in England but we put 6 cyl turbo diesels in and opened them up to 500hp plus so it was to be expected Ive seen 1 with a 1200hp turbine in it so at 50hp it should not be too much of a problem!.
The shaft that you mension should fit but will have the slotted end instead of the 3 holes that yours does.
I dont think you will of damaged anything in the axle or gearbox towing it as long as it was not far and fast. you will just have to check all the bull gears differential and pinion shaft teeth when the top is off as the supers did have a habbit of the teeth wareing and chipping. these parts are not interchangeable with the old major though.
If you need to know more just ask and i'll try my best for you.

great page "fordsontractorpages.nl"

got the tractor repaired, axle replaced with earlier model major, outside looks different (slot vs the 3 countersinks), inside slightly longer past the nut but no problem.

Found axle housing very slightly loose, bolts one quarter to half turn loose.

Bull gears have pits in them, one bull pinion has 4 teeth with chips, side opposite broken axle the worst. Expecting to use this tractor for 25 hrs a year for ten years so hoping the gears will last. No plowing for it, but its a loader tractor. Have some photos if there is any interest.

Glad you got her going. I think if you drive the old girl like you own it and not stole it she should be fine. If you had not had the axle problem you would not of known. I guess it's like how long is a piece of string as to how long it lasts but I hope luck is with you for a long time yet.
Just a thought if you get more problems post on the fordson Board on here as The only true ford part on this old girl is the name on the hood. She is fordson through and through.
I am also a member on the fordson tractor pages forum.(Super6954) so Maybe well meet there aswell.
