I have a 1955 850. The carb is a Marvel Schebler tsx-593. I purchased a carb kit for it. This old carb had a spring (wire like u shaped)that went under the float. I have worked on this thing for hours can can not figure out how it goes. Does anyone know? The blow up I have shows a round spring. Thanks for the help!

Can't see that either! Looks like spring would act to help the float do its floating. Strange to my eyes. :?

Not u-shaped, but not often seen:

Jim:

From your description it appears that you are describing the float/needle valve clip. This attaches the float arm near the pivot to the needle valve such that the needle is much less likely to stick closed. It is especially important when modern gasoline and/or Stabil is used in a carburetor with a Viton tipped needle valve.

The small U clips around the groove in the needle valve opposite the tapered end, while one side of the larger U slips over the float arm.

Look closer and you will see the clip is there to pull the needle valve open when the float drops. The viton tip needle often sticks shut.Small engines have the clip.

Thanks Bob.

It took some thought, as it is easy to visualize but a bit difficult to translate into words.

Dean.
