I have a 1967 Ford 3400 and it used to run pretty good until they started to put Ethanol into the Fuel now it runs crappy. Does anybody have any ideas? It seems like it is starving for fuel also. Thanks Chas |

The ethanol in the fuel replaces combustible material with oxygen (in the molecule), so the combustion process is leaned out. They (EPA and other tree hugging types) like that as there is less unburnt hydrocarbons being released. BUT, us old iron types run into a lean condition. You can change the carb to a richer setting or change the carb to one that supplies more fuel.
The drawback, is if you ever get "real" fuel again, you will be over rich and will have to adjust back.

| Does it still have the "infamous" Holley Carb on it? Do a search in the archives here for Holley or Holly. Read it and weep. Some guys have had some luck rebuilding them with a good kit from the CNH DEALER. Bring the carb and tractor serial # with you to get the right kit as there are several different carbs and you gotta get the right one. Most of us here with those gassers have junked the Holleys and bought the Zenith. Zenith will eat more fuel than the Holley but it will run like new again. |
