OK guys, apparently what I have here is an original motorola alternator with internal regulator. Someone, before I got the tractor, has rigged it with an external regulator... I don"t know why. As it sits, there is one #10 wire coming from largest stud on alt & going to battery side of solenoid. That is why I assumed I had a one wire alternator. The alt seems to be charging fine, 14.21 volts with tractor running. I now am trying to wire the idiot light. I have 12 volts (from ign) to one side of lamp and don"t know what do do with ground side of lamp. I connected ground side to each stud on alt, one at a time. Two of the studs were pure ground, light stayed on all the time-one was where # 10 wire is connected(bat?) and got nothing-the last one I got a weak light that stayed on all the time. Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance. |

| | Looks like what was on my 2600 except that the Motorola VR was mounted on the cowl behind the battery. My harness had several wires for the alternator. Suspect farmerization in play. I have a PDF of the 2600 (3 cyl gas) electrical schematic if you want it. All of that is in the land fill now as I made a new harness and went with a Delco regulator and 3 wire setup and all new seperate gauges. Its not a conversion for the light hearted. |

| the repair shop says that the yellow wire will go to one side of buld as exciter and 12 volts fron bat. goes to other side of bulb through switch. this didn't make sense to me until i read the amc charging link that you supplied. wiring is about the same except the yellow on the aftermarket regulator is the exciter. good luck |

Carogator, note that he is trying to hook up idiot light, not a gauge. I suspect it will be to what appears in his photo to be a yellow(?) wire at the 7:00 position in his photo. |

| | "apparently what I have here is an original motorola alternator with internal regulator" You are WRONG, Bunky! That type of Motorola alternator NEVER had an internal regulator. Often (in vehicle "apps"), the original regulator was mounted on the fender or firewall. The aftermarket regulator jerry-rigged to the back of your alternator MAY have been made by Transpo. If you are bored enough and like to be aggravated you can surf their site (which I have linked below) and see if you can find any information on the regulator setup you have. Of course, you could make things easy on yourself and get a Delco 10SI alternator at a cost of $5 to $10 "recycled" or about $50 re-man. |
