Hello all, i recently bought a little ford 600 (or so i'm told) with a hydraulic front loader, (tubed design) 4 speed trans, 3 point lift with blade, and chains for the tires. I got it for $2800. He said the hydraulics were a little slow when pitching the bucket. I took it home and discovered the hydraulic fluid was low, so i put a gallon in, and it all leaked out of the hydraulic frame because of a crack. So i said alright, i can weld that up no problem. Then, because this tractor didn't come with fenders, one of my chain links came undone and ripped my hydraulic line and broke the fitting. There was a knock when he started it up to show me, but he said the bucket and loader were too heavy for the tractor so the fan was bangin on the housing. Do you guys think i paid too much for it? He said it was a ford 600 and he believed it was from 1947, but they didnt make the 600 series back then i thought....maybe he meant 57? who knows. there is no hood emblem, and I cant seem to identify the serial number. this pic http://home.att.net/~jmsmith45/id/800serialloc.jpg shows the location of the serial number for the 600 series but i cant seem to locate it.. they says its "left side of your tractor (above the starter). They are embeded in a flat plate on the main frame below your ignition switch" do they mean left hand side when your sitting on the tractor? or as if your looking head on with the tractor. because i cant find any damn number on this thing, and im wondering if i got stiffed on this deal. Much help please! -Rob |

| I guess if you can find the starter, it's a no brainer as to which side of the tractor they're talking about. That said, these numbers are stamped fairly lightly into the bell housing behind the starter and under the air cleaner. There is no plate there.
Furthermore, the early NAAs, Jubillees, had the SN on the front left side of the engine block behind the generator. Perhaps yours is early enough it is there. If it is, and you actually have a Jubilee, it's the seller's loss and your gain! |

| I have a Jubilee and a 600 and there may be a nickle's worth of difference between them. They use the same 134 engine. The 600 rear end is a little different on the axel housing ends and the axles, but I'm pretty sure the internals are the same. I have rebuilt both trans and can verify that they are identical. Other differences are fuel line routing and cosmetics, but thats's about it. |

| That fan shroud rubbing, check and tighten the bolts on the front of the block holding the bracket there, I can't remember any specific name or have time to look in the manual right now, but my 850 did that, after tightening those it stopped, and I assume these are similar and or the same 600-800's. Maybe it's part of the axle support I forget, but it's an easy thing to get a wrench or socket on. Loader is also harder on the front axle pivot pin, you might have some free play in there too. |

| If it is a NAA it will have a big (2"?) nut on the wheel hub in the center of the Lug nut circle for taking up slack in the axle. A 600 does not have this nut. Also the hyadraulic lines on an NAA are two individual lines from the pump to the trans. The 600 hydraulics run in a solid aluminum manifold. |

| Well it seems its a NAA, there's a huge nut in the center of the lug circle, and theres 2 hydraulic lines leading to the trans. I am very angry at this fellow for being dishonest with me, told me it was a 600. Is there much of a difference between the NAA and 600? and was $2800 a reasonable price for this NAA? I still want to locate the serial number to identify the year. |

| Both the NAA and 600 are 31HP. The big difference in the 2 of them is age. The Jubilee/NAA where made in 1953-54 and the 600 from 1955-1957. To find the serial number lay your left hand on the starter and your right hand in the clutch pedal. Now just below the battery you should see a flat spot on the spot you should find the numbers you want. They can be hard to see/read because of years of dirt and grease |

| So basically the 600 and NAA are the same tractors, just different years? did they come with the same options? is the rear end the same? and obviously the hydraulic lines are different. Was $2800 a steep price for a NAA? came with decent shape tires, chains, rear 3 point blade, front loader, poor paint? |

| The NAA was available with only one transmission- the 4 speed. The 600 series was available with the 4 speed (640) and also a 5 speed which was available with a transmission driven PTO (650) and with a live PTO (660). |

| $2800 sounds like a real decent deal with a loader assuming average condition. A parade cherry one could be $5000. There just isn't any real differance in the 600 series model 640 and the NAA. Many people don't know the differance which may have been the case for this seller. Some people still call 600's Jubilee out of ignorance. I would check the pivit pin on the front as these tractors are not built for long heavy loader work without repair. Not that hard a job for someone with some mechnical skill. |

| I'm very mechanically inclined with the newer cars today. So how hard would an old tractor be? not familiar with a pivot pin on a tractor, is it part of the front mount hydraulic pump? or part of the steering assembly? |

| Pivot pin it the part that lets the front alxe assembly pivot up and down and is in the center of the axle. The drive shaft for the hyd. pumps runs threw it. As far as the difference in the NAA/600 the 600 has a little better built rear end/tranny but they used the same 134 engine. Just a plain jane NAA in good running shape will/can bring around $3000 so add the loader and other equipment you got a pretty good deal on it |
