It's a 1960. If things work out I hope to clean it up for her (my wife named her Gertie) 50th. Working on the mech. now. Have a great new year.

I agree with the others, if everything is in good shape should start with no problems. My 63 4000 gas starts no problem at below zero in NE all the time, has since my Dad bought it new. Might be a little slow but always starts. I have a buddy with a Super MTA that always laughs at how slow it turns over but I"m the one laughing when his won"t start ;^)and his is 12volt. my two cents worth Greg NE

Good Morning AF1,

I opted for an 8V battery when I had the genny rebuilt many years ago and tweeked to put out 8+. It's been starting great. I may regret bumping it up when I see how the 12V lights operate @ 8V. The 12V light for my SOS lube indicator works fine with the 8V. The easy start is nice in the cold weather, but I would like to find a diesel down the road as well.

Switching to 12 v is only like putting a bandaid over a serious gash . Take battery cables off . Clean all areas of contact shiny & brite . Lube contact points with a dielectric grease & reinstall . Make sure battery & ignition system is in tip top condition . As mentioned a good tune up . Now with everything in proper order it should start ok on 6 v. Merry CHRISTmas & God bless, Ken

switch it over to 12 volt. I have a 1955 860 Ford...Dad bought it new. We never even tried to start it years ago during cold weather...unless we could pull it. After we changed over to 12 volt,we can count on it every time. Made a world of difference. Oh yes....we live in Nebraska....we have plenty of cold weather....

#1 is having it all tuned as needs. #2 carb set right and having good gas in the system. #3Having the timing set just right. #4 holding your month just right each and every time. LOL. I have some tractors that when cold its all you can do to start them and others that you can't get your hand off the starter button fast enough. But the big key is to have every little thing set perfect and that can be hard to get just right. BTDT and still can't seem to get them all to be as I want not matter how many I play with they all seem to be different

Ya they should start easy if all is correct with them. I know the only time I have a problem with my 841 is when the battery has gotten low but other wise it starts when its hot cold or any where between
