I have downloaded several wiring diagrams, with no luck. The tractor has been converted to 12 volts, and here is what I am dealing with: Key Switch - 2 screws Push Button Starter - 2 screws Resistor - 2 connecting points Solenoid - 4 posts (2 large) 1(S) 1(I) Alternator - single post Coil Amp Gauge - 2 posts Can somebody please "dumb" this down for me so I can get to plowing? souNdguy 07-12-2005 12:59:52 12.77.214.178 357777 Report to Moderator	Re: 800 Wiring in reply to Electric Moron, 07-11-2005 14:59:37   Your alternator, ignition bypas style solenoid, and non-oem starter button make a oem wire harness a bit useless. i vote you go for the roll of 5$ wire and terminal ends.. just point to point everything, and then e-tape it to keep it neat. Later down the line consider getting the thumb safety interlocked starter switch, and oem 3 terminal solenoid retrofitted.. and then you will be almost perfect with an oem wire kit, minus 2 VR wires. I have an old solenoid in the barn I will have to look at. It may be different than the one I have now. You could download wiring diagrams till the cows come home and still not have the correct one. We need to know exactly what parts you are using or else we must assume you are using the correct parts. Assuming has gotten me in a lot of trouble before but here goes................ My crystal ball says you have a car solenoid. I figured this out because you have a 2 post starter button. And by looking in my crystal ball again I think I see this starter button in the dash instead of on the transmission where it should be for starting in neutral only. So now I need to know do you want me to draw you a wiring diagram using your car parts. Or do you want me to tell you what parts you need to replace with tractor parts so it will work as intended. I do have a push button in the dash. This was done by the previous owner. Right now, I just need to get it running so I will stick with the current set up. Since it has been converted to use a 12 volt alternator, you will be wasting good money to put a new original wiring harness back on it. You will be butchering a new $100 wiring harness. You can accomplish the same goal with a $5.00 roll of wire and some terminals. Several circuits make up the wiring system. The starting circuit, the charging circuit, the ignition circuit and the circuit for the gages. Each of these circuits individually is a very simple circuit and easy to understand, if you approach them individually. Several days ago, there was a very good post on this forum describing the conversion to 12 volts, using a Delco alternator. Look it up. The starting circuit is also a very simple, consisting of the battery, starter motor, starter solenoid, and safety switch, all of which I am sure you understand. The ignition circuit starts with a source of 12 volt + (probably the big terminal on the solenoid, where it came from the + side of the battery), go from there thru the ignition switch to the + side of the coil (possibly thru a resistor, depending on which coil you are using), out the - side of the coil to the terminal on the side of the distributor. The circuit for the gages is also very simple, but varies somewhat between year models depending on whether you have an ampere gage or an idiot light. You can plow without the gages. Fix them next winter, when it's too cold to do anything except make love and work on old tractors. If you have trouble following my instructions, post back here on this forum with your phone number and I will try to phone you. BTW, you may want to use a different color wire for each of the circuits. It will make tracing circuits simpler, in the future. ~~HB~~ in NC   [Reply]   [Send Email]
