Finally got her put back together after many years of restoration-got'er to fire but will not run without constantly spraying gas in carb.Ihave good flow to carb, checked screenin elbow, float checked-thought it might have hole init-gasket to manifold new and made sure all ports are clear-still will fire but not idle-any ideas where i might find problem.Carb has a been rebuilt-whenever i take carb apart it has had gas in the bowl. When engine is running off of spray bottle,it builds good oil pressure-40-50lbs.Thanks for all the help in getting this far!,by the way,it is the first time i've gotten to hear the engine run in almost 20 yrs and cant wait to use it! |

| | Terrence...hows your compression? Do you have a strong suction at the carb when crankin?? If your compression is insufficient...you won't get the gas up to the engine... Post back with that info for more useful answers.... Tommy |

| | Terrence....just put ya hand on the mouth of the carb..(where the air cleaner pipe connects)..and crank the engine to see if ya got good suction..(it should be pretty strong)...also..make sure your carb. is tight against the manifold... Tommy |

| | Terrence...those values are awful low...As the other post said the rings or valves may be stuck from sittin' so long... Put some MMO in the spark plug holes and pull the valve covers to see if the valves are stuck...(wouldn't hurt to put some MMO on them as well)... Do the MMO for a few days and turn the engine over by hand to help work the stuck parts loose You could probably pull start it as well....pullin it would give ya an unbelievable amount of compression which would be enough to getcha runnin'..... If it were me...I'd do the MMO for a few days to see if it'll free up on its own...If not...a rebuild could be in order.... Tommy |

| Terrence, those pressures are a little low, by restoration I take it you did not do a complete rebuild? Try a wet test, a tablespoon of oil in the sparkplug hole then do the compression test again, make sure all plugs are removed, throttle and choke wide open, air cleaner not restricted ( I'ld even remove the air cleaner to carb hose ). Battery well charged, crankover atleast five turns each hole. Watch how the pressure comes up, even rise each stroke or big initial gain with little gain on subsequent strokes. Then put her all back together, get a trusty friend to try pull starting, will give higher RPMs and compression for start, than the starter can give. If she sat for a couple of years, it is possible the valves and rings are a little stuck, therefore low compression. Some runtime and it may very well free up. LOL ATW/WA |
